    First Take
The 911 has been the quintessential Porsche since 1964 and it is among the very few true sports cars that can serve as a daily driver as well. The previous-generation 911's handling was agile and much more forgiving than earlier incarnations of the car. The ride was not punishing and the engine sound from the rear-mounted boxer six-cylinder was invigorating. Unlike other sports cars, access was relatively easy, visibility good, and even tall people were easily accommodated. The redesigned coupe and a convertible both offer 3.6- and 3.8-liter engines and should carry on with the strengths of the previous generation.
