    First Take
The Cayenne is a luxury midsized, unibody SUV. Developed with the Volkswagen Touareg, it comes with a choice of a Porsche V8 engine or a Volkswagen-based V6. Low-range gearing and advanced electronics promise some off-road capability. The powerful V8 of the Turbo grows to 500 hp with the Technique package. The S and Turbo are very fast but lack the trademark agility of a Porsche. Some controls are overly complicated. Like the Range Rover, the Turbo has an automatically adjustable ride height. Poor reliability is a disappointment.
