Next-Generation 2025 Mini Cooper Gains Power, Tech

    A familiar exterior houses a mini-malist interior

    Overview

Mini continues its portfolio overhaul with the redesigned, fifth-generation Cooper. This model has been at the heart of the brand since it was founded 65 years ago. The concept remains the same for the 2025 Cooper three-door, with a familiar silhouette, a minimalist interior, and the promise of uncommon agility. Its overall dimensions remain unchanged.

There are two gas-only configurations at launch: the base model, now with a four-cylinder engine, and the sportier Cooper S. It’s safe to assume a higher-performance John Cooper Works version will be added later. There will also be an electric version.

The interior is even more simplified than before: There is no gauge cluster ahead of the driver. Instead, a circular screen at the center of the dashboard serves double-duty for information and entertainment.

The Mini Cooper three-door production starts with the Cooper S in March 2024. The base Cooper begins production a few months later in July. Not all the details have been released. But here is what we know so far.

It competes with the BMW 2 Series, Honda Civic Si, Subaru BRZ, Toyota GR86, and Volkswagen Golf GTI.

Impressions The evolutionary styling is immediately recognizable as a Mini Cooper, with its short overhangs, flat roof, forward-canted stance, and friendly face, with an octagonal, mouth-like grille and signature round headlights. The body itself looks more aerodynamic (ahem, melted), with its smooth surfaces, and the rear LED lights integrate a Union Jack design.
