    First Take
The Sable, like its corporate twin the Ford Taurus, is a good car that's showing its age. It's roomy and comfortable, with a decent ride and spacious rear seat and trunk. Handling is sound but not agile, and the brakes produced long stopping distances in our tests. The optional 3.0-liter, 201-hp V6, which we prefer to the base V6, performs well but isn't as responsive or quiet as those from Honda, Nissan, or Toyota. The bland but well-assembled interior has a comfortable driving position for most.
