Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.
We expect the 2024 Sierra 1500 will be less reliable than the average new car. This prediction is based on data from 2021, 2022 and 2023 models.
The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.
Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.
Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.
"My GMC Sierra currently has 63,000 miles on it. I just had to have the calipers, brake pads and discs replaced for the SECOND time since I bought the truck. I am the one and only owner of this vehicle since I bought it new. The first time I had to replace the calipers, brake pads and rotors was when the truck only had 40,000 miles on it. The calipers tend to stick when the brakes are pressed and then don't release the brake pad from the rotor when the foot is taken off the brake, causing premature brake wear. If CHEVROLET/GM used drum brakes rather than inferior disc brakes this problem wouldn't occur. I've owned GM products for the past 45 years and have so many problems with their vehicles that this is the last GM product I will ever buy."

"Good ole northern-clime steel cancer is the root cause of many of the problems with this aging truck. Along with age itself it is planned obsolescence plain and simple. Given what we as a society are only just beginning to understand, this model of manufacture, consumption and disposal is completely unsustainable. A model consisting of a robust and long lasting base, or chassis, that can have associated components repeatedly upgraded and changed to accommodate changing needs could be a far more sustainable improvement. As to resolution of the problem, well who knows."

"I understand that it is the gauge cluster electronics that repeatedly cause entire cluster, all dash lights, audio system, climate control and who knows what all else to go completely dead on an intermittent, but not at all rare basis. This is a serious problem when driving at night! This started ten or more years ago, happens mostly when temperatures are high behind the dash and has not been resolved."
