Original Peloton Bikes Are Recalled Due to a Fall Hazard
Peloton has received reports that the seat posts on some of its bikes may break while in use, posing an injury risk to the rider
Update: On Nov. 6, 2025, Peloton issued a new recall for the Peloton Original Series Bike+, covering about 833,000 bikes sold between January 2020 and April 2025. The model number for this bike is PL-02, with serial numbers beginning with the letter “T.” The recall was issued after three reports of the seat post breaking and detaching during use, including two reports of fall injuries. If you have this bike, you should stop using it immediately and contact Peloton via phone (866-679-9129) or online for a free replacement seat post. On May 11, Peloton issued a recall for more than 2 million original Peloton Bikes sold in the U.S., according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The seat posts may break or detach during use and lead to a fall or an injury.
Peloton has received 35 reports from users who experienced this. There have been 13 injuries due to falling from the bike, including a fractured wrist and cuts and bruises.
The bikes are the PL-01 models, also known as the original Peloton Bike. This model is included in CR’s exercise bike ratings. Our engineers didn’t experience this problem while evaluating the bike in our labs, says John Galeotafiore, Consumer Reports’ team lead for home improvement testing.
Details of the Peloton Bike Recall
The recall: About 2,160,000 PL-01 Peloton bikes sold in the U.S. The bike is also known as the original Peloton Bike.
The problem: The seat post can break and detach from the bike during use, causing riders to fall.
The fix: Stop using the recalled bike and contact Peloton to receive a free replacement seat post that you can install yourself.
