"Battery was about 3 years old. I had purchased it from AAA. In December I went out Christmas shopping. No indication of any problem when I left home. Went into a store and came back out. When I turn ed the ignition key there was absolutely no response, no sound, nothing. Looked at TBE artery and contacts were corroded and a cell was swollen. called AAA for roadside assistance. The arrival time kept being pushed back. I waited a total of 7 hours. I got a new battery from them at a prorated cost, but am wondering if the bad battery damaged the alternator."

"This has been a known problem for years. I didn't see recall notice in time to get it fixed. Several mechanics have told me it needs a new engine. This is a secondary car now, so not worth putting money into it."

"Sudden of the engine light came on, then all the lights came on, then the power steering went out and then the car died. Had it towed to my garage to have the 3 year old alternator replaced. After hat the car ran very well but the engine light did not go out. Be,cause the tech told me they could not warrant he alternator because the engine light was still on. Took it to the dealer who replaced that alternator with another and the engine light went out. I argued with the service rep to get the3 day old alternator back so I could return it to the previous shop. The dealer wanted to charge me an additional$75 to keep my alternator that I had just paid for 3 days earlier. After I argued some more they did give it back and I got a refund on the alternator but not the labor from the original shop. Service rep at dealer assured me the car was now fine. 2 weeks later I got a letter from the dealer to bring my car back in for service because the had concerns about the engine. When I called they take me me the engine light was still on! I asked if they really thought I would have paid them and taken the car if that were the case. After some stammering on their part they told me to just throw TBE letter away. Total cost was $1700."
