CR's Take

This three-row SUV is based on the Ford Flex, with a similarly roomy interior and a more stylized shape. 2019 models are equipped with a standard 3.5-liter turbo V6 engine, six-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive. The ride is comfortable but stiffer than that of the Flex, and the MKT is cumbersome at its cornering limits. The interior is very roomy, plush, and quiet. But visibility and the driving position are compromised, and the third-row seats are best suited for kids. A wide turning circle and overall length hamper maneuverability. The 2019 model year is the MKT's swan song; it will be replaced by the 2020 Aviator, which goes on sale this summer.

2013-2019

2013 Redesign Year

The 2013 update brought the addition of variable cam timing to the 3.5-liter V6. This bumps horsepower from 262 to 287. A self-parking system is offered as an option. Overall, MKT rides well, is commendably quiet and second-row legroom is abundant. Though the third-row seat is modest, cargo space is generous. A by-product of the Lincoln's size and soft ride, handling is clumsy. For the 2016 model year, Sync 3 replaced the much-maligned MyLincoln Touch. The 2019 model year was the MKT's swan song; it was replaced by the 2020 Aviator.

2010-2012

2010 Redesign Year

This big three-row vehicle has a very roomy, plush, and quiet interior, along with many luxury amenities. However, the view out and the driving position are compromised by its styling. Its third-row seats are best suited for kids. Base models are powered by a 3.7-liter V6. The up-level engine is a turbocharged V6, making it quick, while returning 18 mpg overall. The ride is comfortable, but handling lacks agility, and the MKT is cumbersome at its cornering limits. A wide turning circle hampers maneuverability.
