    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Apple CarPlay

"Apple Car Play doesnt consistently connect to the entertainment screen. It will also randomly disconnect while in use. Many times we unplug and replug it in to reconnect but its unclear if its the usb or software or entertainment system. We have replaced our Apple cords in the event it was the cords and it continued to have connection issues."

Anonymous, MA (2017 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)
    Display screen freezes up

"Radio, GPS screen would go blank and radio would not shut off and volume was frozen at one level."

Anonymous, MA (2017 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)
    Display screen goes blank

"The electrical has never been right and we purchased it new in 2017. Each time I complained about the display screen going dark then resetting and turning back on while driving, the Honda service technicians would say they couldnt recreate it and there are no recalls. It continued to do it except the entire car shut down and stopped driving. Both were in dangerous situations and when I brought it in they said they updated the firmware/software and I should be all set. While my car has not shut down while driving since, I do continue to get the dark screen and entertainment scene reboots while driving."

Anonymous, MA (2017 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

""Can't find a pattern, but every once in awhile the display screen will be blank and not operate. It seems to occur turning off vehicle, then back on within a couple of minutes. Solution is to turn off car again, then restart to get the screen to function.""

    Anonymous A., OH (2017 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"The smart phone interface will often will not find my phone and sometimes randomly will disconnect for no apparent reason."

    Anonymous A., SD (2017 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)
    Hardware replacement

"I have had problems intermittently for several years. Various things would go wrong."

    Anonymous A., MI (2017 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

""The pairing works fine, but voice playback of incoming text messages no longer functions.""

    Anonymous A., OH (2017 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)
    Radio

"Multiple electronic problems regarding the console."

    Anonymous A., MI (2017 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    12V battery

"The automatic stop-start function stopped at a stop sign in a desolate area of Minnesota at 3AM during a 20 below zero weather issue. I finally got it started again before we froze. The dealer denies any issue with the vehicle (even though this issue of a stop-start malfunction has been documented by others) and sold me a new battery (second battery since purchased the vehicle new). I will not buy another Honda!"

    Anonymous A., SD (2017 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)
Alarm or security system (excluding aftermarket systems)

"I may be repeating myself from a prior survey but about 18 months ago the battery died, I took it too the local Honda dealer, they could not identify the problem. This recurred about 3 months later and they again could not ID the problem even with my descritpion of the "idiot lights going crazy" and this recurred another few months later. I finally took it to an independent service garage who diagnosed it in about 2 to 3 hours and fixed it over the weekend. Zero problems since. I think when I bought this car 8/2020 your ratings for the 2017 Pilot were not out yet but I think the next issue did question the electrical system."

    Anonymous A., IA (2017 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

""This is mostly a complaint about the Honda dealership service department but started with a dead battery and all the warning lights going crazy with clicking sounds from the dashboard. They could not find a problem. This recurred 4 months later and they again could not find a problem. Then the key fobs (BOTH) stopped working, new batteries did not work, and they could not find a problem. Then...the alarm went off at about 1:30 AM, I could not open the door with key fob or "hard key" so I had to let it alarm for about an hour until it died. I took it to a service place recommended by a friend (NEVER going back to Smart Honda) and he diagnosed it in an hour or so (a fault in the alarm system) and fixed it. Has worked fine since, about 7 months. A comment about your auto editions: I look at those but when I bought the Pilot at 2.5 to 3 years old I dont think you had enough data to report, but later editions had a negative review specifically on electrical systems in 2017 Pilots. Kudos for that!""

    Anonymous, IA (2017 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)
    Keyless entry

"It was all related to the electrical system issue that I previously wrote about."

    Anonymous, IA (2017 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)
    Remote engine starter

""This wasn't a mandatory recall, but it should have been. It stalls when at a red light OR turning at a light. Very dangerous, and has been noted by many customers. This was "fixed" at dealership at not cost, but I have had a couple of incidents since.""

Anonymous, NJ (2017 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)
    Warning lights

"All of these things were messed up when the electrical system was a problem, the independent auto repair shop guy told the security system was sending signals "all over the place" that was killing the battery, which Honda was clueless about."

    Anonymous A., IA (2017 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

    Transmission Minor

Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Rough shifting

"A hard shift occurs when decelerating like turning a corner."

Anonymous, IL (2017 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Most of the time the car does run smooth. However every now and then with no warning when the automatic transmission shifts from first to second gear it goes bang and lurches forward and it sounds pretty scary like something is going to break under the car. When I took it to the mechanic the fact that it already had stopped doing this they can't fix what they can't find and when it's not acting up. It is a very weird problem I have never encountered. I will assume here soon the transmission will have to be rebuilt as it is pretty scary when it does this."

    Anonymous A., RI (2017 Honda Pilot Unsure 3.5-L V6)

"car speeds uup when paddle downshift is used"

Anonymous, AZ (2017 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

"This issue started within the last year. Took the car to a mechanic and they said the whole system needed to be replaced. The cost would be possibly around $3000. But they werent sure until they were able to get in and take a look. We have not had it fixed and are still deciding whether or not to."

Anonymous, MD (2017 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)
    Blower (fan) motor

"Blower speed does not seem to have a low setting, and the floor vents emit almost no air. Dealer sais there was nothing wrong"

Anonymous, CO (2017 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)
    Evaporator

"Evaporator drain plugged. Had it cleaned. This is the first time in my 8 years of ownership that I had this problem. Not an unexpected problem given the age of the vehicle"

    Anonymous A., TN (2017 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Catalytic converter

"2 days after I purchased the vehicle from the dealer a admissions idiot light came on. I took it to the deal who reset it and told me it was just a glitch. Less than a month later it came on again and I took it to my mechanic. He told me one of the four catalytic converters was bad and this should not have happened on a Honda especially this new."

    Anonymous A., RI (2017 Honda Pilot Unsure 3.5-L V6)

"have gone through two catalytic converters in the past 2 years"

Anonymous, AB (2017 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

    What Owners Say

    Shocks or struts

"I didn't know I had the issue until I took it into the dealership for regular maintenance. It was going to be over a $2000 repair and it was just out of warranty. Luckily Honda, because I use their service, paid for 75% of it."

    Anonymous A., CA (2017 Honda Pilot Unsure 3.5-L V6)

"Passenger side front strut is leaking oil and appears to be a common occurrence with year and model. It was discovered during a routine maintenance."

    Anonymous, MA (2017 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Failure of left strut, wear/ near failure of right strut"

    Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Torque converter

"""Transmission System Problem" warning message displayed while traveling, very unnerving as we were 900 miles from home. Could not detect any discernible difference in drivability, but took vehicle to closest Honda dealer to have checked out before return trip home. Diagnostic code was to replace torque converter. Luckily, there was a technical service bulletin that covered this issue, and it was replaced at no charge.""

    Anonymous A., MO (2017 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"downshiftindg car speeds up: put in gear car doesnt move"

Anonymous, AZ (2017 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

    Anonymous A., LA (2017 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Rotors

"Had to replace rotors (front and back) due to vibration. Installed heavier duty rotors and have not had problems sense."

Anonymous, LA (2017 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

    Fuel System/Emissions

Sensors (O₂, or oxygen, sensor), emission-control devices (includes EGR), fuel-injection system, fuel gauge/sender, fuel pump, problems filling up the tank.

    What Owners Say

    Fuel injection system

"The fuel injection problem had been going on for the past couple years. Ended up getting it repaired in the last six months or so. The vehicle was still drivable. The car handled and performed well/OK. But the issue would cause the vehicle to display problems and or send messages that other things werent working. The dashboard would light up like a pinball machine, lol. There was nothing else wrong. It was just the fact that it was sending messages thinking there was something wrong."

Anonymous, MD (2017 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

    Body Hardware
