    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2014 Honda Odyssey owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

    What Owners Say

    Cylinder head

"Ring failure causing oil to leak into spark plug chamber, fouling out spark plugs 1 and 3. Initial replacement of spark plugs in 2022 from oil leak. Replace plugs & serviced at various intervals thereafter, at 1000 miles, 500 miles and ultimately 250miles after each replacement of plugs. Resolved August 2025 by Honda upon recall of several models. Honda delayed recall, even though several reports were filed since our initial issue with cylinders. Once recall was issued, we have been extremely satisfied and grateful for the service received through Honda corporation. I would definitely purchase another Honda product, especially Odyssey van or CRV. Thanks!"

    Anonymous A., TN (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
    Engine rebuild or replacement

"Honda has now admitted that the cylinder de-activation system causes problems. We had the dealer fix the problem for $5,800.00. Running it for 12,000 miles since then, it worked a bit better at first, but now does not run smoothly through the power curve (when all cylinders should be powered), nor does it always idle smoothly."

    Anonymous, IN (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

""Engine oil in cooling system, low oil in oil pan bearings damaged, replaced engine with used""

    Anonymous, IA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
    Other major engine problem

"the rings on two of the pistons "melted" (dealer description, not mine) making the van undrivable."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Honda Odyssey Unsure 3.5-L V6)

"The three deactivated cylinders, designed for increased mileage, require cylinder ring replacements to address oil leaks into the combustion chamber. Honda will pay for the repair under a recall plan."

Anonymous, IN (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"alternator failed to adequately charge the battery and was replaced"

Anonymous, TX (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

""The spool valve leaked onto the generator causing its failure. The entire spool valve was replaced instead of just the gasket; the generator and the battery were replaceda major 2,000-dollar repair by a Honda dealer.""

    Anonymous A., PA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
    Timing belt or chain

"The timing belt replacement was actually a recommended service item at this mileage. It also involved a water pump replacement and fresh coolant added. This recommended replacement item I found is also quite expensive. I had quotes ranging from $800-$2200 for this service. Although 11 years old now, my Odyssey has been loyal and reliable, and I felt it worth the $800 expense I paid to continue driving this vehicle for some time into the future."

Anonymous, OH (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Replaced timing belt and water pump per recommendation of dealer and not due to failure."

    Anonymous, MA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous A., AZ (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"My power ,steering fluid leaked out within minutes while parked; there was a rust spot in the steering rack and that rack had to be replaced at a cost of $1200 parts and labour!"

    Anonymous, CA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

""Paint on exterior easily flakes off wheel rims and bumpers. Started in 2022, just after the warranty ran out. Honda said it was now my problem.""

Anonymous, GA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

""There was a previous recall for paint issues. We only had a small spot on the hood, so we ignored the recall. Since then the problem has exploded covering large areas of the bodya significant defect in white pearl paint.""

    Anonymous A., PA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Paint peeled off on small section when the car was about 2 years old. That was covered by Honda. Since then, every panel on the vehicle has lost a significant amount of paint and Honda has refused to assist with repairs. The worst part (for me) is they gave a warranty extension to that year make model but in a different trim. They knew there was a major issue and chose not to repair."

Anonymous, OH (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"The white paint peeled of the liftgate five years ago and peeled off driver's side rear door 4 years ago;Honda Canada paid for repairs with new paint which has held up fine! This summer two patches flaked off the roof;I repaired them myself!"

Anonymous, NL (2014 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

"The paint started cracking and peeling shortly after we got it. They said it wasn't covered, and they'd paint it for 20% off. Turns out it was an endemic problem with this particular pearl paint but they refused to do anything about it. Its now peeling in multiple places, rusty, but we don't want to spend the money so it just looks terrible."

    Anonymous A., MD (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other/unsure

""Needed new battery only 3 yrs after last replacement. Replaced front stabilizer bar links to eliminate squeaks that developed on turns and dips in road. Replaced spool valve as was leaking oil onto alternator, which would be ruined if leak continued. The spool valve had to be replaced at about 100000 miles for same reason.""

Anonymous, MD (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"The automatic sliding side door on the driver's side frequently malfunctions and won't open or won't close properly. We haven't taken it in to be repaired because we assume it will be expensive."

    Other minor engine problem

""Sometimes, such as turning at a corner and pressing the gas pedal, there is no response from the engine.""

    Anonymous A., AR (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

""Started using oil and fouling plugs (#3 cylinder). Told needed a ring job, but they didn't do a compression test. Did research and found out it was a common problem for this year model and those who got ring jobs still had the problem. Got a VCM Tuner II that disabled the VCM system such that all 6 cylinders work all the time. Use Seafoam in the oil and gas to clean out top end and Valvoline Restore and Protect oil. Problem solved. No more oil consumption and still get 32 mpg on the freeway.""

Anonymous, AZ (2014 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

""Last summer both the condenser and compressor went, along with leaks in the line. The lines are placed badly in the body where they get chaffed and developed leaks. This whole deal took several appts for repair and cost in total about 5K It was a real pain, my mechanic whom I trust explained some of the design issues that put strain on the whole system. Thinking about it, this would likely prevent me from purchasing another Odyssey.""

Anonymous, CT (2014 Honda Odyssey Unsure 3.5-L V6)

"Needed to be changed because of rust"

Anonymous A., ON (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

    Refrigerant leaks

""Last year air conditioning became gradually worse. Leak was detected by local service company (not Honda, they are TERRIBLE here!) and ring replaced. Still no air conditioning, so replaced condenser part, I have had other Hondas and never encountered this problem at much higher mileage than 91000.""

    What Owners Say

    Premature brake wear

""I've had to replace the brake pads at least three times and rotors at least once. Most I've ever had to do on a car. Got the car used in 2015 with about 18K, now in 2025 has 142K miles""

Anonymous, AZ (2014 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)
    Pulsation or vibration

"Im on my third odyssey and all have had the same issue. Brake pulsating is due to low quality front brake rotors. I replaced the rotary on my previous vehicles but since retirement I have yet to do this on my current vehicle."

Anonymous A., OK (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)
    Rotors

"this has been a recurring problem since the car was new. Services have included rotor resurfacing and replacement."

    Anonymous A., CA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"This was routing maintenance, but it is worth noting that the front brake service was to replace the factory rotors and pads on my Odyssey, which lasted 105,000 miles before this replacement. I've never had brake life like this before!"

Anonymous, OH (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

""Low-speed rattles (i.e. at parking lot pavement cracks) from the front of the vehicle. I went to five (!) different places (two authorized dealers) to get it diagnosed and repaired. After strut replacement and several hundred dollars later, the cracks are still there, and nobody can find the cause.""

    Anonymous A., WI (2014 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

""When traveling around town, there is often a persistent rattle coming apparently from inside the rear liftgate.""

    What Owners Say

    Alternator

"Car stopped working on a trip. Had to be towed to closest auto shop to be repaired. Owner had to drive to pickup the part. It was repaired same day but took all day to repair."

    Anonymous A., PA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"An oil leak above alternator leaked into it and caused it to fail"

Anonymous A., UT (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)
    Spark plugs or wires failure

"Spark plugs initially failed 2022 with over 100,000 miles on vehicle. Maintenance was performed as recommended by Honda through a trusted mechanic. The first set of replaced plugs lasted approximately 1000 miles, next couple of replacements lasted 500-1000miles, and the last couple of exchanges were good for less than 500miles. Honda was contacted after the second replacement and informed us a recall had not been issued. They did not recognize there was a problem, even though our research indicated we were definitely not alone in experiencing this issue. In July of 2025, after several thousand dollars in repairs we received a manufacturer recall notice. As of August, the van was repaired at our local Honda dealer. We are very pleased with the repair and all of our interactions with Honda since the recall was announced. Our experience with owning several Honda Odyssey's has been very positive, and we would definitely purchase another. This a great vehicle for families, roomy and comfortable and dependable as well. We investigated the safety reports as well prior to purchase. Consumer Report is our go to source for reliable information on each of our vehicle purchases. Thanks!"

    What Owners Say

    Slipping transmission

"Transmission would slip when shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear. The problem was pretty consistent. The issue was resolved in early 2024. The issue was resolved with 4-5 transmission fluid flushes."

Anonymous, NY (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"shuddering for months. Honda Dealer wanted to replace the transmission. Got a second opinion from Christian Brothers and they slowly changed the transmission fluid over the course of three drainings over three months. Shuddering was resolved."

    Anonymous A., AL (2014 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)
    Transmission sensor or solenoid

"Solenoid went bad. We recently fixed it, 25 miles ago. If that doesn't work it means going deeper into transmission. Note we are using a transmission shop not Honda. We checked the problem out with Honda dealership. They don't replace Solenoid but would have to replace the box that holds the Solenoid cost of parts about $850 plus installation for total of $3800."
