What Owners Say
"Honda has now admitted that the cylinder de-activation system causes problems. We had the dealer fix the problem for $5,800.00. Running it for 12,000 miles since then, it worked a bit better at first, but now does not run smoothly through the power curve (when all cylinders should be powered), nor does it always idle smoothly."

Anonymous, IA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)"the rings on two of the pistons "melted" (dealer description, not mine) making the van undrivable."
Anonymous, CA (2014 Honda Odyssey Unsure 3.5-L V6)"The three deactivated cylinders, designed for increased mileage, require cylinder ring replacements to address oil leaks into the combustion chamber. Honda will pay for the repair under a recall plan."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)""The spool valve leaked onto the generator causing its failure. The entire spool valve was replaced instead of just the gasket; the generator and the battery were replaceda major 2,000-dollar repair by a Honda dealer.""
Anonymous A., PA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)"The timing belt replacement was actually a recommended service item at this mileage. It also involved a water pump replacement and fresh coolant added. This recommended replacement item I found is also quite expensive. I had quotes ranging from $800-$2200 for this service. Although 11 years old now, my Odyssey has been loyal and reliable, and I felt it worth the $800 expense I paid to continue driving this vehicle for some time into the future."
Anonymous, OH (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)"Replaced timing belt and water pump per recommendation of dealer and not due to failure."

"Ring failure causing oil to leak into spark plug chamber, fouling out spark plugs 1 and 3. Initial replacement of spark plugs in 2022 from oil leak. Replace plugs & serviced at various intervals thereafter, at 1000 miles, 500 miles and ultimately 250miles after each replacement of plugs. Resolved August 2025 by Honda upon recall of several models. Honda delayed recall, even though several reports were filed since our initial issue with cylinders. Once recall was issued, we have been extremely satisfied and grateful for the service received through Honda corporation. I would definitely purchase another Honda product, especially Odyssey van or CRV. Thanks!"
