    Anonymous, OH (2014 Honda CR-V EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

""My entire air conditioning system had to be replaced, and I didnt even have 100,000 miles on the vehicle yet. Completely unacceptable. Honda knows about these Issues with CR-V air conditioners for decades and has not corrected it or provided relief for consumers. I had been a diehard Honda fan since the year CONSUMER REPORTS rated them the best car manufacturer in the U.S. and recommended every single vehicle they sold in the U.S. I have bought and driven only Honda vehicles since 2001. I now dont feel inclined to ever buy another Honda.""

"AC system was only blowing hot air. Mechanic found multiple leaks and a failed compressor."

    Anonymous, CA (2014 Honda CR-V Unsure 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The compressor clutch was "fried" recently (about a week ago). According to my trusty mechanic that is not uncommon for CRVs. He showed me with a mirror exactly where this problem had occurred. I am currently waiting for my mechanic to get the parts he needs. But he is having trouble getting quality parts lately, likely due to tariffs and supply chain issues. He does not want to put in cheaper parts that he'd need to replace "in a year". So I'm living without AC, hopefully just temporarily ;)"

    What Owners Say

    Engine rebuild or replacement

"The engine ha an odd grinding sound"

    Anonymous, PA (2014 Honda CR-V EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"I bought the car new in November of 2014. I have always taken it to the Honda dealership to have all the routine maintenance done on it. Always kept an eye on the oil. But at around 119,000 miles it began to burn more oil than normal. At 123,000 miles the engine began making a loud whirring sound. It continued to get worse. I took it into the Honda dealership and they explained that I needed a new engine. I took it to another mechanic who specializes in Hondas. After having the car for 2 days they said that the noise was definitely coming from deep in the engine and said that it would need to be replaced. So, now Im looking for another car and it definitely wont be a Honda"

    Timing belt or chain

    Anonymous, CA (2014 Honda CR-V LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

""My paint started looking faded and flakey before it even had 100,000 miles on it. I had it examined by a couple of experts who said it was a catastrophic failure of the clear coat which is a factory defect. I have owned numerous vehicles over several decades, some of far less quality brands than Honda (such as Hyundai and Chevrolet), none of which were ever garage kept. I have NEVER EXPERIENCED A VEHICLES PAINT FAILING IN THIS MANNER. Again, Honda seems to be ignoring this problem and not offering a correction or amelioration for consumers. Completely unacceptable and horribly disappointing. Perhaps this degradation in quality and lack of attention to consumer problems is why the brand has slipped so far down in CONSUMER REPORTS ratings in the last several years. This is one once loyal fan and personal advertiser for Honda who has reversed course in the face of monumental dealbreaker disappointments.""

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Calipers

""The rubber seal surrounding the piston of the left rear brake caliper degraded; water was able to enter the piston and rust. This cased the piston to not be able to move freely resulting in the left rear brake pad to cease to reliably disengage causing a shearing noise and premature brake pad wear. I am relatively handy; the issue went on for about a month until I was able to self-diagnose it. I spent about 1.5 hours replacing the caliper myself from a remanufactured on purchased for about $95 from O'reilly Auto Parts. The fix was easy enough, and I am pleased with the quality of the part. I am also overall pleased with my 2014 CR-V, as the car is 11 years old, and the brake caliper I removed was the original, OEM caliper from the factory which was present on the car when purchased. I have not had any problems with the braking system prior to this issue, and I have not experienced any problems with the braking system since replacing the caliper. This car has shown me 11 years of reliable braking with only one relatively minor repair needed in that span of time, that minor repair being the replacement of the caliper. I can't say enough about Honda's quality and reliability, especially on my 2014 Honda CR-V EX.""

    Anonymous A., PA (2014 Honda CR-V EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

""We had all four breaks replaced, within 3 months one of the rear brakes prematurely needed to be replaced, after two visits to two different shops the cause was determined to be the calipers. Those were replaced and then six months later the front passenger breaks failed while driving and it was determined it was fhe calipers there as well, we ended up replacing the break pads three times and the calipers and all four of our tires because of the uneven wear""

"We were getting A LOT of noise. We replaced one wheel bearing ourselves (my dad) with a lot of trouble and decided to pay a shop to do the other, because we were afraid the noise might be from another source, perhaps something connected to the shudder we were feeling around 40 MPH. Other electrical system problem

""During cold weather (20-40 degrees), battery will be dead if car is not driven for as little as 20 hours. If between 40-75 degrees, battery will be dead if car is not driven for 24-48 hours. If above 75 degrees, battery will be dead if car is not driven for 3-4 days. I've had 3 new batteries and a new alternator put in. Nothing has made a difference, and the mechanics at the well-regarded shop I use could not find the source of the drain, though they know something is draining the battery. I have to rely on a portable charger, or I will have to wait a couple of hours (or longer) for AAA to come and charge the battery. It has been a colossal inconvenience.""

"Noise when starting for a few seconds. Well known VTC actuator spring weakening problem. Dealer recommended chain replacement as well which I agreed to given I left fixing the actuator longer than I needed to. Had this expensive fix done in 2021.
