Who are they? An after-school club from an inner-city high-school that is otherwise considered "disadvantaged." The team has 20 student members along with a few mentors, alums, and faculty advisors. They have built three alternative fuel cars since 1998 and won the Northeast Tour del Sol three times.

What they say will set them apart: West Philly Hybrid X is entered two cars, one in the Mainstream and the other in the Alternative class. Both use production gasoline engines and unique hybrid drivetrains. In the Mainstream class, the team is entered a Ford Focus converted to hybrid power.
