What is it? BMW introduced the high-performance M version of the X6 crossover SUV at the New York International Auto Show. The BMW X6 M and the X5 M are the first BMW M vehicles to have all-wheel drive. The xDrive AWD system has an electronic stability control system programmed for enhanced control and handling. In addition, the special M chassis package includes an adaptive suspension.

Both models are expected to be fitted with a 4.4-liter V8-high-performance turbocharged engine delivering 555 horsepower. BWM claims these machines can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds.

The X5 M and X6M will be priced at $86,225 and $89,725 respectively (including $825 destination & handling).

When will it be available? Late 2009.
