What is it? Porsche unveiled the Cabriolet version of its iconic 911 at the Detroit auto show; the Carrera it's based upon was redesigned for 2012. The Cabrio's roof is made of lightweight fabric. Like the hardtop version, the Carrera Cabriolet gets its motivation from a 350-hp, 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine and the ultra-sporty Carrera S Cabriolet is powered by a 400-hp, 3.8-liter flat six.
What's new or notable? The roof can be lowered and raised at speeds up to 37 mph. As with the hardtop version, the new 911 is longer and wider than the outgoing model. Porsche says that this will create a sportier driving experience. The Carrera Cabriolet will sticker for $93,700 and the Carrera S Cabriolet will ring in at $103,800.
When will it be available? The Cabriolet is coming just in time for warm weather and will be on sale a few months after the hardtop hits the market in February.
