What is it? Launched as a 2007 model, the Mazda CX-7 receives a minor midlife update for 2010. As shown here, the exterior is treated to a cheerful facelift, giving it a smiling appearance much like the revised MX-5. The rear bumper has also been redesigned, and top trim levels have other detail changes, such as door handles and fog lamps.

More significantly, the peaky, not-particularly fuel-efficient turbocharged engine is joined by a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Shared with the Mazda3 and Mazda6, the Four produces 161 horsepower less than found in many competing SUVs. It is teamed with a five-speed automatic transmission. The turbo engine produces 244 horsepower.

What is new or notable: With the new engine comes a lesser trim level and lower base price. A smart move in this market.

When will it be available? Late summer 2009.
