What is it?
Ford recreated the look of classic American locomotives with the Super Chief concept vehicle. The exterior is reminiscent of post-WWII train engines while the interior-incorporating materials such walnut paneling, a glass paneled roof, leather seats, and brushed aluminum-replicates a classic dining car. Its high beltline and postage-stamp size windows add to its train-like motif. Underneath the forward-tilting hood is a flex-fuel-ready V10 engine.
What's new and notable?
According to Ford, this concept's V10 could run on gasoline, E85, or hydrogen.
CR's take:
This audacious locomotive-inspired brute is undoubtedly the precursor of the redesigned Super Duty F-Series that is due in the summer of 2006. Among the powertrain choices will be a brand-new diesel and a V10 that will run on E85 ethanol or gasoline. If the aggressive styling carries over to the production model, it may resonate well with target buyers who believe that big is "bad."
