What is it?
The Enclave is part of a new group of crossover vehicles developed by General Motors on its new Lambda platform. Its three rows of seats provide seating for six people, and it will be powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine. The Enclave will be available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions. The interior of the low-slung Enclave features leather seats, woodgrain panels, and round, silver analog gauges. The exterior borrows several styling cues from successful crossovers such as the Lexus RX and Nissan Murano. The Enclave will replace both the Rainier and Rendezvous when it goes on sale. Two DVD players, mounted to the ceiling, can be moved back and forth through the cabin.
CR's take:
It's not every day that GM introduces a new platform. With a world-class V6 and a roomy interior, the Enclave could be a credible player in the increasingly competitive crossover SUV segment.
What's new or notable?
Roof skylights appear to be a theme for this auto show, and the Enclave has a bronze-tinted one that covers a large portion of the roof.
When does it go on sale? Early 2007.
