Ford Shelby GT500 convertible |
|
What is it? The most powerful Mustang convertible ever offered, the 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 boasts a 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 engine producing 450 hp - a full 150 hp more than the potent Mustang GT. The return of the famed Shelby moniker to Mustang production ensures a full raft of performance enhancements in addition to the powertrain, including firmer supension, larger brakes, and more aggressive tire fitment. The exterior carries significant enhancements beyond the stripes, with unique body work to distinguish the Shelby model from more mainstream GTs. Likewise, the interior has been swathed in leather, with unique trim, gauge faces, and embroidery further signifying this special model. Engineered by Ford's Special Vehicle Team, it marks a bold return the SVT brand, as well. The 'GT500' name is respectful nod to the GT500KR, the mightiest Shelby Mustang from the '60s muscle-car era.
What is new or notable? A follow-up to last year's Ford Shelby GT500 coupe unveiling, the convertible variant adds a popular body style to the high-performance range.
When will it be on sale? Summer 2006.
