What is it? First, some definitions: Concept CT stands for compact technology, while MIEV stands for Mitsubishi In-wheel Electric Vehicle. In plain English, this concept vehicle is a small SUV hybrid that uses large electric motors in each of its four wheels as its primary means of propulsion. The electricity comes from a Lithium-ion battery pack mounted in the floorboards and from a 67-hp 1.1-liter, 3-cylinder gas engine mounted underneath the trunk floor. The engine drives the rear wheels in addition to providing electricity for the 27-hp electric motors. The MIEV seats four and has rear-opening back doors for a large, pillar-less door opening. For storage, the vehicle has a trunk in front and a large rear hatchback.

What's new and notable? Putting the electric motors in the wheels instead of under the hood saves space and makes it easy to use for the manufacturer to use a fuel-cell, battery or internal combustion powerplant in the same car.
