What is it?
The S6 and S8 are high-performance versions of Audi's luxury A6 and A8 models. Both use the same 450-hp, 5.0-liter V10 engine. Audi claims a 0-to-60 time of 5.1 seconds for the midsized S6 and 4.9 seconds for the larger S8. As with Audi's other high-performance S models, the S6 and S8 feature a lowered sport suspension, bigger tires, and a few subtle trim differences. Pricing will be about $90,000 to $95,000 for the S8, but Audi has not estimated prices for the S6.
CR's take:
With their V10 engines, the S6 and S8 match the most-recent BMW M5 for engine-cylinder count.
What's new or notable?
For motivation, Audi has equipped both the S6 and S8 with a V10 that is based on the engine on the Lamborghini Gallardo powerplant. (Audi owns Lamborghini.)
When will it be on sale?
In Fall 2006, as 2007 models.
