What is it? The redesigned Z gains 26 more horsepower compared to the previous 350Z, thanks to a new 332-hp, 3.7-liter V6. This is matched to either a new 7-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual with a new synchronized rev-matching system. The 370Z's wheelbase is almost four inches shorter, and the body is 2.7 inches shorter and 1.3 inches wider. These more compact dimensions and the use of aluminum body panels help reduce the car's weight by about 95 pounds, compared to the 350Z. This helps provide a better power-to-weight ratio and slightly better fuel economy. Standard safety features include side and curtain air bags, active head restraints, and a tire-pressure monitoring system.

What is new or notable? The optional Sport Package includes a new synchronized downshift rev-matching system, called SynchroRev Match, for the 6-speed manual transmission. This automatically controls and adjusts the engine speed when shifting to the exact speed of the next gear position, making it easier to shift and reducing the shift shock of the clutch engaging. If desired, the system can be deactivated by pressing a button next to the shifter.

When will it be available? January 2009 for the 370Z Coupe. A roadster version will follow for the 2010 model year.
