What is it? A sport-themed variant of the diminutive Smart ForTwo, this special edition is offered in cooperation with German tuning house Brabus. The trim package includes cosmetic and handling enhancements. The car uses the standard 70-horsepower three-cylinder engine, though the transmission has been tuned to improve shifting and the exhaust system has been upgraded.
The suspension has been modified, lowering the body about 10 millimeters, to aid handling and appearance. Distinct wheels have been fitted, with 15-inch Brabus wheels in front, 17 inch to the rear. The body has been dressed with lower skirts, fender flares, roof spoiler, foglamps, and obligatory badging.
Inside, the cockpit features an ambient light package and numerous trim upgrades, such as leather-wrapped handbrake lever, three-spoke steering wheel, and velour floor mats
What is new or notable? The ForTwo Brabus will enable shoppers to have an even more distinctive vehicle, available in coupe ($17,990) and convertible ($20,990) body styles.
CR's take: The tiny Smart is good on gas, a snap to park, and easily sparks conversations. However, it has a harsh ride, clumsy handling, and an automated manual transmission that has the worst gear shift quality we've experienced. While the special package does add visual flourish, it may not address critical weaknesses.
When will it be available? Early 2009.
