What is it? A full-hybrid version of Mercury's midsized sedan, the Milan hybrid can run on electricity at up to 47 mph, according to external sources. The hybrid uses Mercury's new 2.5-liter, 175-hp four-cylinder gas engine, and the company expects it to be EPA-rated at 38 mpg in the city.
What is new or notable: It uses a smaller, lighter battery pack than the Mercury Mariner Hybrid, yet produces about 124 electric horsepower, for a grand total of about 300 hp for short bursts.
CR's take: The Milan Hybrid, and its twin, the Ford Fusion Hybrid won't be plug-in hybrids, but they will be on the short list of vehicles that can be converted to plug-ins. The company says it wants this hybrid to be fun to drive. We liked the Milan's ride and handling, and its basic utility. 300 horsepower should make it fun.
When will it be available? Early 2009
