What is it? Ford freshens the Mustang for the 2010 model year, in time to face the all-new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and the current Dodge Challenger. The exterior is updated with new fenders, fascias, headlamps, and grille. Within that grille is a new Mustang emblemthe first since the car's 1964 introduction.
The interior has been upgraded, as well, addressing the cheap cabin of the current car. The dash retains the dual-cockpit configuration that is a nod to the early models, though the center stack, rectangular vents, and steering wheel give the interior a more modern appearance.
What is new or notable: Output from the 4.6-liter V8 increases incrementally to 315 hp, though it hasn't announced an increase in V6 power. Without a change, the base car would concede 90 horsepower to the base Camaro.
CR's take: The muscle car showdown that enthusiasts have dreamed up is just months away, but it will happen during tough times. All three competitors capture the spirit of the 1960s and early 1970s cars, with modern comfort, performance, and safety features.
When will it be available? In 2009.
