What is it? Hyundai rolled out its updated 2009 Sonata, giving it a midlife freshening. Already arriving at dealers, the '09 Sonata has exterior, interior, engine, and suspension upgrades.

The change is subtle, but this Sonata features a new grille, bumpers, headlamps, taillights, and wheels. The cabin has been graced with a new center console and instrument panel, drawing design inspiration from the Veracruz SUV. Seat heaters have been added, as well as micro-plug and USB audio system inputs for connecting MP3 players. A factory-installed navigation system is now available.

The base four-cylinder engine sees horsepower climb from 162 to 175, and it can be paired with a newly available five-speed automatic transmission. The 3.3-liter V6 also increases output for the new model year, climbing 15 for 249 total. Both engines show a slight increase in EPA fuel economy ratings.

What is new or notable: The SE trim has a sportier suspension, with thicker anti-roll bars front and rear.

When will it be available? Now.
