What is it? Porsche unveiled the Cayenne GTS at the Chicago Auto Show. The GTS features a 405-horsepower, 4.8-liter V8 engine matched with either an automatic Tiptronic S or a six-speed manual transmission, which is new in a Cayenne V8.

The Cayenne GTS exterior appearance is similar to the Turbo version, but the body is lower and it will be fitted with standard 21-inch wheels, which are optional on other Cayenne versions. The interior front and rear seats have also been redesigned with Alcantara upholstery, giving them a sportier look.

Pricing will start at $69,300, which places it between the Cayenne S at $57,900 and the Turbo at $93,700.

What is new or notable? The Cayenne GTS is the first Cayenne to feature an active suspension with steel springs and electronically controlled damping system. Active suspensions have previously been reserved for Porsche’s sports cars.

When will it be available? February 2008.
