What is it? Chevrolet is celebrating its motorsports heritage with two special-edition models unveiled in Chicago. The first is an Indianapolis 500 commemorative edition, which is in honor of the fact that this year’s Indy 500 will mark the ninth time a Corvette has paced the legendary race. The pace car replica will be a convertible wearing Atomic Orange paint, gold ribbon graphics, Indianapolis 500 logos, Z06 rear spoiler, and split-spoke silver wheels. Inside, the replica will have embroidered seats and body-color trim pieces. Under hood, the 400-hp LS2 V8 will have Atomic Orange engine covers. Only 500 replicas will be offered to the public, which will help ensure its status as a future collectible. Starting prices is $66,995.
The second special-edition Vette, the Ron Fellows ALMS GT1 Champion Corvette Z06, will be even more rare. Only 300 vehicles will be produced for the United States, and 99 for export. This special edition honors the contributions race-car driver Ron Fellows has made to Corvette motorsports, including developing the original C5-R that dominated the American Le Man Series GT1 class. Fellows has been a part of all six consecutive ALMS GT1 manufacturers championships for Chevrolet. The car is an Arctic White Z06, accented with fender graphics that include Fellows’ autograph, championship years, and maple leaf—a nod to his Canadian roots. The exterior also features a full-width racing spoiler, chrome wheels, and a windshield banner. The red interior features a hand-signed armrest. The Ron Fellows edition starts at $77,500.
What is new or notable:
The Indy 500 pace-car replica Corvette will be the first offered since 1998, despite the fact that the Vette paced in 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006.
When will it be available?: Both Corvettes: spring, 2007.
