What is it? Toyota is hoping that bigger is better for its second generation Sequoia, which bowed at the Los Angeles Auto show. This full-size SUV has been completely redesigned and has many attributes found in the Tundra pickup truck. It comes equipped with a standard 4.7-liter V8 with five speed automatic transmission and the same 381-hp 5.7-liter V8 engine from the Tundra is optional as is a six-speed automatic transmission. The Sequoia also features independent suspension at both the front and rear for a more comfortable ride. Towing capacity is rated at 10,000 pounds.
The Sequoia has grown in length, width, and height inside and outside to accommodate the eight seats to allow more comfort and space. Second and third row rear seats are adjustable for easier access and rear doors open wider.
What’s new and notable? Standard safety features include driver and passenger seat mounted side curtain airbags and roll-sensing side curtain airbags that extend from the front seat to the third row.
CR’s take: Our subscribers reported problems with the drive system in the 5.7-liter V8 configuration of the Tundra. We wonder if this problem has been sorted out for the Sequoia.
When will it be available? December 2007
