What is it? Lincoln has introduced an all-new flagship sedan that looks to be the company’s most serious effort to compete with import sedans since the LS. The full-sized MKS is a rolling showcase of Ford’s latest powertrain, safety, and entertainment systems.
A 3.7-liter V6 was developed from the 3.5-liter engine used in many Ford Motor Company vehicles. This variation will make 270 horsepower in the MKS, and it will be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. In less than a year, the V6 will be joined by a V8 engine that marks the first use of Ford’s new gasoline turbo direct-injection engine technology.
The MKS will be available with an all-wheel-drive system that can route 100-percent of power front or rear as conditions warrant. It will ride on standard 18-inch wheels, but wheels up to 20-inches will be available.
The interior offers a range of premium features including a high-end THX audio system and Ford’s Sync system, which provides seemless integration for mobile devices and digital media players. Other features include voice-activated navigation, a rearview camera, and keyless push-button start.
Ford says that some wood trim will be made from recycled furniture and they claim that the leather in the MKS is the softest ever used in a Lincoln. It will be provided by Bridge of Weir Leather, the same Scottish company that provided hides for the Ford Model T almost a century ago.
The base MKS will start under $37,985. Fully loaded, with every option will be $48,120.
When will it be available? Summer 2008.
