What is it? The 2009 Journey is a new entry into the competitive car-based SUV segment. It is based on the Chrysler Sebting/Dodge Avenger platform and is Dodge’s first, car-based SUV. The vehicle has standard seating for 5 passengers, plus an optional 3rd row for an additional two seats. The Journey claims plenty of storage space through features like the “Flip ‘N Stow” in-seat storage bin, which is hidden under the front-passenger seat cushion. There are also storage bins located in the floor behind the front seat. Plus, a tri-fold load floor is located behind the second row seat, providing hidden storage that turns into a “grocery bag” position when needed.

In addition to clever storage capacity, the Journey offers a few family friendly features. One is a child “presenter” seat, which allows the 60 percent part of the second row to move forward two inches when the vehicle is stationary. With the front-passenger seat folded, the driver can access the child in the second row. Also available are integrated child booster seats, which will raise the seat up four inches.

The Journey will come with a standard 2.4-liter engine with 173-hp and a four-speed automatic transmission. A 2.7-liter V6 engine is optional as well as an optional AWD version with a 3.5-liter V6 engine.
