Cadillac Escalade Hybrid/Platinum |
|
What is it? At the LA Auto Show, Cadillac debuted the Escalade Hybrid, the first hybrid in the large luxury SUV category. The Escalade will use a two-mode hybrid system shared with both the Yukon and Tahoe hybrids. GM claims it will deliver more than a 50-percent improvement in fuel economy. The two-mode hybrid system consists of an electrically variable transmission (EVT) and 300-volt nickel-metal hydride Energy Storage System (ESS) that work together with the standard 6.0L V8 gasoline engine. The Escalade Hybrid will be offered 2WD and 4WD configurations, and it will have a towing capacity of 6,000 lbs.
In addition to the Hybrid, Cadillac is announcing the special-edition Platinum version of the Escalade. This premium SUV is fitted with Cadillac's magnetic ride control technology that allows a fast-reacting, active suspension system. On the outside, the Platinum edition is distinguished with a unique front fascia, LED headlamps, and 22-inch wheels.
When will it be available? Platinum - Spring 2008. Hybrid - Summer 2008.
