What is it? Completely redesigned for the 2008 model year, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution brings a new look, performance, and handling. It features an updated engine, which is a 2.0-liter turbocharged/intercooled engine that produces more power than the previous engine, with an estimated 295-hp. A new all-wheel-drive system, called Super-All Wheel Control, regulates and controls all the handling technologies including Active Center Differential, 4-wheel drive, Active Yaw Control rear differential, Active Stability Control, and Sports ABS brakes. The integration of active stability control is new on all models.

Two Lancer Evolutions will be offered in the U.S. when it goes on sale in 2008: The GSR with have a new 5-speed manual transmission and the MR a new 6-speed automated manual transmission (similar to the DSG in Audi/VW cars), which is capable of selecting two gears at a time. One is pre-selected and once the gear change is made--either manually or automatically, it is said to occur simultaneously without perceived lag time.

The Evolution is one-inch longer in the wheelbase, which now brings it up to 104.3 inches, with an overall width up by 2 inches to 71.3 inches and a 1.2 inch increase in front and rear track for a total of 60.8 inches.

When will it be available? Winter 2008.
