What is it? The Nissan GT-R, the fifth-generation of the legendary supercar, is making its North American debut at the LA Auto Show. Nissan's highly anticipated high performance vehicle is built on a platform that uses a rear transaxle layout that places the transmission in the rear of the car to enable weight to be evenly distributed throughout the car.
Under the hood, the GT-R will have a 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 engine delivering 480-hp. The transmission will be an all-new 6-speed dual clutch transaxle with paddle shifters, with manual and automatic modes. Handling is managed by a 4-wheel independent suspension and a system that adjusts for three driving settings: Normal, Comfort, and R for ultimate handling.
Nissan is marketing this vehicle for everyday driving situations, as well as on the track.
Nissan has added a number of safety features to increase visibility such as high-mounted LED stoplights and LED rear combination taillights, and “super wide beam” headlights.
Prices start at $69,850 for the base model and $71,900 for the Premium model, which adds a Bose audio system, heated seats, and side air bags.
When will it be available? June 2008
