What is it? Subaru has freshened the Outback and Legacy for 2008, with minor changes that include new grilles, interior updates, and standard tire-pressure monitoring. The six-cylinder and turbocharged four-cylinder versions of both will feature paddle shifters with the five-speed automatic transmission. The Outback has a more upright fascia and other new sheetmetal touches. The Outback XT features new fog lights. The six-cylinder and XT versions both get new wheels. The 3.0 R sedan takes the place of the 2.5 GT spec.B model as the high-end Legacy. Subaru says there will be optional stability control for more Outback and Legacy models.
CR's take: Currently Subaru forces you to get a heavily-optioned Legacy or Outback to get stability control, an asset on these tail-happy cars. Expect to see stability control being extended to the whole Legacy/Outback line by fall
2007.
