What is it? The Nissan Rogue is a small SUV based on the Sentra sedan to be offered in front- and all-wheel drive configurations. Power comes from a 170-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a standard continuously variable transmission. Electronic stability control, head-curtain air bags, and active head restraints are standard. The interior features a two-layer glove box and a cargo organizer for the rear.
CR's take: While most small SUV's aren't so small anymore, the "Mini-Me" Murano looking Rogue is more a compact alternative. Nissan's recent new products all share some common traits, like CVTs and lots of available electronic goodies (like keyless start/entry systems and Bluetooth), both of which are evident here. We've tested an '07 Altima which shares the same front-wheel-drive 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and CVT; it is a desirable combination of strong acceleration and excellent fuel economy.
What is new or notable: Frankly, while the Rogue looks pleasant enough, there's not much new here. Nissan's signature standard CVT sets it apart a little.
When will it be on sale? September, 2007
