What is it? Whether it was the five-horsepower difference between the Viper and the Corvette Z06 or the talk of the 600-hp "Blue Devil" Corvette, Dodge has upped the ante in the horsepower and displacement wars with the 2008 Viper SRT10. The aluminum V10 engine on the updated Viper grows from 8.3 to 8.4 liters. It also gains 90 horsepower, now topping out at 600, while also producing 560 lb.-ft. of torque. According to Dodge, the Viper will leap from 0-to-60 mph in under four seconds, and be able to accelerate from zero to 100 mph and back to zero in just over 12 seconds, with a braking distance under 100 feet. In order to put this additional power to the ground, the Viper has a new twin-disc clutch and a new limited-slip differential. Styling of both the coupe and convertible remains similar to the 2006 model Consumer Reports tested, but the hood has been revised with a larger scoop for better air induction and larger functional hood vents for improved engine cooling.

When will it be available? Summer, 2007.
