What is it? Developed alongside the Chrysler minivans, Volkswagen returns to the struggling market segment with its fresh-faced Dodge Caravan clone. The Routan shares powertrain and basic features, though its driving dynamics are said to have a more European feel.

The standard engine is a 197-horsepower, 3.8-liter V6 with a six-speed automatic transmission. An optional 4.0-liter V6 has 251 horsepower.

Prices will start under $25,000.

What is new or notable: The rear entertainment system has two 9-inch screens for the second- and third-row passengers.
