What is it? The most powerful Boxster to date pays homage to the RS 60 race car of 1960, which helped solidify Porsche's racing credentials with a win at the 12 hours of Sebring in 1960. The limited edition, 2008 RS 60 is powered by a 3.4-liter, 303-hp flat six-cylinder engine, matched with a standard six-speed manual transmission. A five-speed automatic is optional. Revised front end styling, exclusive silver metallic paint, active suspension, unique 19-inch wheels, and other interior and exterior details help distinguish the RS 60 from lesser Boxsters. Standard safety features include electronic stability control, ABS, and doorsill- mounted head protection airbags.

In a nod to the original race car's 1960 success, just 1960 RS 60s will be built, and fewer than 800 of those will be available for US sale. The price? $64,900.

What's new or notable? Porsche's active suspension system can lower the RS 60's ride height by 10 mm. It features continuously adjustable shock absorbers, and automatically adjusts settings to the driver's style.

When will it be available? March 22, 2008. (For about five minutes.)
