What is it? Pontiac expands the Solstice line with a new coupe version, unveiled at the New York auto show. This new Solstice will be offered as a standard coupe and the high-performance GXP. The coupe offers the same 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 173 horsepower as the convertible and the GXP is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 260 horsepower.
Since there are only minor structural changes and a slight increase in curb weight to make the transformation to a hardtop, Pontiac says the coupe's ride, handling, acceleration, and fuel economy will be comparable to the convertible model.
What's new or notable? The Solstice coupe has a removable roof panel. There is an optional soft roof cover that can be stored in the cargo area. This production model was inspired by a Detroit show car from 2002.
When will it be available? Early 2009.
