What is it? Pontiac has unveiled a new vehicle that combines a few traditional car types to create the G8 sport truck. According to Pontiac, it will have performance coupe-inspired handling and light truck cargo capabilities. Based on the new G8 sedan, this sport truck will have a four-inch longer wheelbase and a cargo bed with two covered storage compartments under the load floor.
This two-passenger truck will be powered by the same engine in the G8 GT, a 6.0-liter V8 with 361 hp. It will also have a six-speed automatic transmission with GM's Active Fuel Management technology to help improve fuel economy under light load conditions. Towing capacity is 3,500 lbs.
Standard safety features include electronic stability control, a tire-pressure monitoring system, and side and head-curtain side air bags.
What's new or notable? Currently this model is called the Pontiac G8 sport truck, but the official name will be determined by consumers voting online.
When will it be available? Late 2009.
