What is it? Its 2009 redesign marks the second generation for the midsized TSX, a car that straddles the family sedan and sports sedan categories. The outgoing model was an appealing blend of comfort, convenience, and sportiness, and we would expect the new car to have similar attributes. The 2009 model has grown a modest few inches longer and wider, but it remains smaller than the Honda Accord.
The engine is a revised version of the all-aluminum 2.4-liter four-cylinder from before, with dual balance shafts for better vibration damping. Horsepower has been lowered slightly, to 201, but torque has increased a little. Acura says this pulling power is spread more widely across the rpm range, so the car should feel at least as quick as the old one, if not more so. The revised engine is said to be more fuel efficient, and it is also clean enough to qualify the TSX as a ULEV, or ultra-low emissions vehicle, under California's tough pollution rules. Standard equipment includes leather-covered power seats, a premium audio system, dual-zone climate system, and Bluetooth connectivity. The optional satellite navigation system can receive real-time traffic reports from 76 cities nationwide.
What is new or notable? Optional satellite audio function has a "notes" button that captures and identifies up to 30 sound clips for later review.
When will it be available? Spring 2008
