What is it? The Forum Concept is a minivan reveals some
future design cues for the next-generation Nissan family hauler. As a concept, it has a variety of interesting features, but most of them aren't going to make it to production.
The front-wheel-drive Forum is powered by a diesel engine that
Nissan calls an "environmentally sensitive clean" design, making it easy to
assume it would be a 50-state legal in terms of emissions.
The exterior is a swoopy take on the typical boxy shape of a minivan, with
an aggressive-looking nose, aerodynamic mirrors, and a greenhouse that
tapers towards the tail. The doors use a trackless system, which is great for concepts but probably not something well see in a production van. Nissan did away with the second roof pillar in order to open up the interior. Inside the
people mover has a second-row seat that swivels and can be put in different
positions--a Nissan take on Chrysler's Swivel n ' Go. The moonroof
panel is a large, expansive system of glass panels that give the Forum a
very open feel.
What is new or notable? Two features should be interesting to
parents. One is the "time out" feature, a single button on the center of the
steering wheel that can automatically mute different entertainment systems
and allow parents to communicate with lively kids in the back. The other is the Kid Cam, a second- and third-row video monitoring
system.
