What is it? Toyota merges the flexibility of a truck with the fuel efficiency of a hybrid with the A-BAT Concept. The vehicle, positioned below the small Toyota Tacoma has truck-like features, but Toyota says it will have the ride and handling of a car. It will run on a 4-cylinder engine with the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive. The A-BAT rides on a 19-inch wheel base and has a four-foot long bed. It seats four passengers.

Inside the vehicle, the rear seats fold down to extend the cargo length and the rear seat cushion can retract beneath the cargo bed as well. A removable storage tray has tie downs to secure loose objects.

What is new or notable? High-tech features in the A-BAT include a retractable GPS unit and Wi-Fi Internet access.
