What is it? The M6 is a high-performance version of BMWs 6 Series coupe and convertible. The M5 is a high-performance sedan. Power comes from a turbocharged V8 engine that puts out 560 hp—the most power ever in a normal production BMW. The only gearbox is a seven-speed dual-clutch/sequential gearbox.

All of this comes at a price, so save your pennies. The M6 convertible starts at $113,995. In comparison, the M5 and M6 coupe start at a relatively pedestrian $90,695 and $160,995, respectively. In addition, the X6 M will start at $93,795.

What is new or notable? While the previous M6 used a V10, BMW switched to a more efficient turbocharged V8. In addition to better fuel economy, this M6 makes gains in power and has reduced emissions.

CRs take: What’s to say? Big, fast, luxurious…and certainly out of reach for most of us!

When will it be available? Summer 2012.
