Consumer Reports auto experts report from the 2012 LA Auto Show
Porsche Cayman

What is it? The third-generation Porsche Cayman is longer, lower, and lighter than the previous model. Launching in Cayman and Cayman S trims, Porsche touts that its performance is elevated, ensuring it is not a mere consolation prize for 911 aspirants.

What’s new or notable? Touting improved fuel economy, the base model is powered by a 2.7-liter flat-six engine with 275 horsepower, with a claimed 0-60 mph time of 5.1 second. Offering higher performance, the Cayman S packs a 325-hp, 3.4-liter engine with an official 4.4-second 0-60 mph time. Both engines offer just incremental power gains over the out-going model.

CR’s take: More of a good thing sounds appealing.

When will it be available? Spring 2013.
