What is it? This is essentially a race car for the street. Its AMG 6.3-liter V8 delivers a sobering 622 horsepower and 468 lb.-ft. of torque, enabling it to sprint from 0-60 mph in a scant 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 196 mph.

Other goodies designed to optimize its dynamic performance include ceramic brakes, an electronically-controlled rear-axle differential lock, and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that includes a number of drive modes for tailoring the powertrain's response.

After climbing in through the gull-wing doors, you're treated to a cabin dressed in abundant leather and carbon-fiber. As if the V8 soundtrack wasn’t enough, this SLS features a Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG surround-sound system with a 1,000-watt amplifier and 11 speakers. An optional aero package includes an adjustable carbon-fiber wing. Mercedes hasn't announced pricing yet, but, then, if you have to ask...

What is new or notable? Each of AMG's 6.3-liter V8 engines is hand-built in the AMG factory in Affalterbach, Germany. An engine badge includes the signature of the engine builder.

When will it be available? Summer 2013.
