Jaguar XFR-S

What is it? Following the ferocious XKR-S, Jaguar is giving its XF sedan the high-performance R-S treatment.

Underhood is a 542 horsepower, 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine that is certain to make this cat road. It is based by an eight-speed transmission. Jaguar claims 0-60 mph sprints in a scant 4.4 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph.

The dramatic exterior body work balances aerodynamic enhancements for speed and stability, with routing air to cool the powertrain and brakes. Jag says the wing, flares, and diffusers cut overall lift by 68 percent.

To likewise improve handling, lightweight 20-inch wheels are fitted to the corners and the suspension is made 30-percent stiffer. The stability control system has a track mode to enable deeper exploration of the handling edge before actuating.

What's new or notable? The entire package is notable for pushing the XF to new extremes. And it is worth noting the trend Jaguar is exhibiting, as the automaker continues to position the "R-S" signature as its answer to the BMW M, Lexus F-Type, and Mercedes-Benz AMG extreme machines.
