What is it? Audi has brought back its iconic allroad off-roadable wagon for 2013. The new allroad is based on the A4 wagon, rather than the previous A6, though it has a longer wheelbase. The drivetrain will be the A4’s standard 2.0-liter, turbocharged engine, putting out 211 hp and 258 ft.-lbs. of torque, backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission and Audi’s all-wheel-drive system.

What's new or notable? The new version dispenses with the complicated, off-road ready air suspension of the previous version, though it does gain 1.5 inches of ride height over the standard A4. The allroad will replace the A4 wagon when it goes on sale.

CR’s take: If the new allroad is only a “soft-roader, at least removing the air suspension should aid its reliability.

When will it be available? Late 2012
