What is it? This update of the SLK makes it look more like the latest version of its big-brother, the iconic Mercedes SL. It also returns a four-cylinder engine to the lineup, alongside the 302-hp, 3.5-liter V6. Mercedes hasn’t specified, but we’d expect that four-cylinder offering to be the turbocharged 1.8-liter engine that puts out 201-hp in the new C-Class sedan and coupe. The new SLK still uses a retractable hardtop and offers Mercedes’ Air Scarf system, which blows hot air on passenger’s necks to keep them warm in cool weather when the top is down.

What’s new or notable? The new SLK is the first roadster to offer head-curtain air bags in the tops of the doors to protect occupants in a side crash. And a new Panoramic roof option has a large glass panel on top. Taking it one step further, the Panoramic roof with Magic Sky Control uses electrochromic glass so the driver can adjust the tint from transparent to opaque.

When will it be available? June 2011
