What is it? Making its worldwide debut in New York, the 2012 Dodge Avenger R/T adds a sporty variant to the top of the sedan range. Fitting with the Dodge spirit exemplified by the Challenger and Charger, the Avenger R/T has more visual attitude than the current, more pedestrian models, the Pentastar V6 engine, and a firmer suspension.
Building upon the significantly updated 2011 Avenger, the R/T adds a body-colored grille, unique 18-inch painted aluminum wheels, R/T “war paint” fender decals, rear spoiler, and obligatory badging.
Inside, the seats feature sporty fabric inserts and red stitching, an embellishment also applied to the steering wheel. The dash has a model-specific gauge cluster with a center-mounted tachometer, and pedals are finished with SRT-inspired covers.
The engine is the same 283-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 available on other Avengers and the Chrysler 200.
What’s new or notable? The performance upgrade comes by way of the suspension. Already notably improved for 2011, the Avenger R/T features significant additional tuning to firm up the ride.
When will it be available? Third quarter 2011.
